Mitsui Chemicals Singapore Elastomer Installation Completed

April 14, 2024
Mitsui Chemicals announced on July 13 that its Tafmer polyolefin elastomer device at Jurong Island in Singapore was officially completed. The total investment of the 100,000-ton/year plant built in March 2010 was 200 million U.S. dollars. It is a joint venture of Mitsui Elastomers Singapore (MELS), which uses Mitsui Chemicals' proprietary technology and metallocene catalysts.
This project enabled Mitsui Elastomers Singapore (MELS) to achieve a total capacity of 200,000 tons of Tafmer polyolefin elastomers on Jurong Island. The company’s joint facility in Yoichi, Japan also has a production capacity of 50,000 tons/year.
Tafmer is a family of flexible and lightweight polyolefin elastomers that improves impact resistance and heat sealability when compounded with thermoplastic resins such as polypropylene and polyethylene.
